The Meaning of Talawa
Talawa is a word deeply rooted in Jamaican Patwa, expressing the spirit of strength, boldness and resilience. Talawa often describes an individual, group or community who may be small or underestimated but who possess incredible inner strength and determination.
The term has evolved beyond its original meaning to represent various expressions of strength and empowerment:

We chose this name because it perfectly captures what we see in every child - that same unbreakable spirit, that same potential to rise above circumstances, that same bold determination to succeed.
Our Story
Talawa was born from a simple belief: every child deserves access to quality education, regardless of their economic circumstances. We recognized that countless talented, ambitious students were being held back not by lack of ability, but by lack of resources.
Our Canadian and Jamaican charitable organization brings together passionate individuals who believe in the power of education to transform lives, families, and entire communities. We work directly with schools, families, and students to identify those who would benefit most from our support.
Through scholarships, educational tools, and sustained support, we're helping to build a brighter future - one student at a time.

Wait-A-Bit Basic School
Providing early childhood education in Trelawny, Jamaica, this basic school lays the foundation for young learners in a nurturing environment.
Through our support, we've helped improve essential infrastructure including electrical systems, playground equipment, and nutrition programmes.
Wait-A-Bit Primary (All Age) School
Grades 1-6 (ages 6-12) providing quality education and enriching programmes for students from the surrounding community.
We provide direct support to help parents with school fees, uniforms, and textbooks, ensuring that every child has access to the education they deserve.
